Pitching is an important part of a reporters job. Reporters have to convince their editor that they have a great idea and that they know how to execute the story. So- what’s the secret?
In one sentence, the pitch needs to tell the editor what the story is about, how the community is impacted by the story and why it is important to tell the story now. Additionally, the pitch should include the full name, professional title and contact information for potential interviewees; links to three primary sources; and the most recent media stories over the same topic.
Using this outline to pitch story ideas will increase your pitching-acceptance rate.
